Blood Sugar!

Well it's been one week now of monitoring my blood sugar and things have gone pretty well so far.  I saw an Endocrinologist last Monday and he made me feel much more at ease about everything.  I had been stressed out about not really knowing what I could and couldn't eat.  I didn't know how high my blood sugar was getting after eating certain things and that was frustrating me.  After talking to him and going over what my levels should be after meals and how to alter my diet to help my body control it without insulin, my stress level has come WAY down.  The worst time of day for me seems to be after dinner.  It appears that that time of day is hardest for my body to bring my blood sugar back down on it owns.

Yesterday was my first day of giving myself an insulin shot before eating and honestly, I didn't even feel it.  It hurts worse to prick myself 4-6 times a day to check my blood sugar than it did to give myself a shot of insulin.  When I checked my blood sugar after using the insulin, my levels were great!  Proof that the small dose of insulin worked!!  In the words of the doctor, "Think of it as being in the county jail. You'll only be here for a short amount of time, doing somethings that you don't really want to do.  But after 2 months you'll be free again!"  This has to be one of the best analogies I have ever heard.

With a few months of pricks and pokes to make sure Jaxon and I stay healthy, I should be fine.  I think I can handle being in "County Jail" for a few more weeks!!

ICE Experience!

As I mentioned in the earlier post.  The day after Christmas we went to the ICE experience at the Gaylord hotel in Grapevine.  It was truly amazing to see these ice sculptures.  It was hard to believe they were made of ice.  You are quickly reminded though because you are wearing a large parka and in a room that is between 12 and 17 degrees!  BURRRRR!!!!

Yes, it's all made of ICE!

I felt like a giant smurf!

Many Blessings!

Christmas break!!

This Christmas break has been a very relaxing and yet very productive break.  We finally go time to work on Jaxon's room and it is beginning to look like a nursery.  We were able to clean out a bunch of junk and either throw it away or take it and donate it.  Purging is a dreaded process but I always feel much better once it's done!

Our break began the Saturday after we got out of school with a drive to Grandview for my family Christmas.  This has been a tradition for as long as I can remember.  We used to drive to Marshall every year but about 8 or 9 years ago moved it to Grandview.  A much more central location.  We then spent a few days in Blanco with Brett's family and had Christmas there.  We received some great stuff for Jaxon from both of our family.  We are truly blessed to have such wonderful family around!!  Christmas Eve we came home and went to church, then spent Christmas day at our house and then drove over to my parents for lunch.  Christmas night we drove to Dallas with my parents and my sister.  My sister wanted all of us to go to the Gaylord to see the ICE exhibit.  It was a very amazing thing to see if you've never been!  I highly recommend it.  I'll post pics from there later.  Since then we have been relaxing at home getting small things done around the house.

The white bookshelf will be replaced with
a rocker at some point.

All that's left to complete the bed is the bedding!

His name will go above his bed.
This was my New Year's Day project while Brett watched football.

Mom and I spent New Year's Eve day, painting our kitchen.  The ugly gold that I have hated since we moved in is finally gone.  I am in love with my new kitchen!!  Much improved!

You'll have to excuse the messy table!

Many Blessings this New Year!
